The Board of Trustees oversees the material and physical aspects of the church. They also oversee all preservation and restoration work of the church buildings and manage all trust funds.
There is much to be done at St. James. Among other urgent matters, the church roof leaks, the masonry of the walls must be redone, the interior of the building must be re-plastered and repainted and the wheelchair access ramp must be improved. The Committee of Stewards oversees the financial operations of the congregation. As of April 30th, 2010, they reported that actual revenue to that date was $ 161,360 and actual expenses $182,011. Expenses in excess of income were $20,651.
It costs $60,000 a year to heat St. James, up to $8,000 a year for snow clearing and $15,000 a year for insurance. These are among the many operating expenses of our church. You can help. Click here to make a donation to the Stewards Fund of St. James United Church.
The Court of Session oversees the spiritual life and worship of the church. This includes outreach, music and Christian Education.
It costs about $35 per bag to offer food to users of our bi-weekly food depot. The Open Door program has donated Bibles for visitors to consult in the church. Many people take them home. The Benevolent Fund of St. James United Church was created to deal with pastoral emergencies large and small. It is administered by our minister. The church also makes an annual commitment to the Mission and Service Fund of the United Church of Canada. The work of the national church across the country and around the world is funded by the M&S Fund. Members and supporters of the United Church know that it takes money to put their faith into action.
